Phase II of the Food Waste Pilot program will be a continuation of the Food/Paperboard Compost Pilot Project which was partially funded by the 2007 1% for the Tetons Grant. In Phase II, The Teton Conservation District, Terra Firma Organics, Teton County, Wyoming and Jackson Community Recycling are proposing an expanded program to identify a technology to collect and process an increased volume of food waste, paperboard and waxy cardboard. The collected material will continue to be processed at Terra Firma’s composting site at the Teton County Transfer Station. Read Full Application

In 2001, TVCR began a long process of self, and then public, education. A handful of volunteers with tiny budgets, have run pilot programs, attended conferences, collected data and met with experts from around the country which led us to our own backyard, Jackson Wyoming. We researched Terra Firma Organic’s (TFO) operation of waste diversion and recommended the county have a look, which led to TFO becoming the managers of our interim transfer program, starting in November of 2007. Here in Jackson, we do a ton, but sometimes none. My friends and I write postcards on the back of cereal boxes because we can’t recycle them here. But, we still drive 20 minutes up to Teton Pass to ski and 20 minutes back to our hot showers. We still heat our homes with baseboard heaters and fly back and forth to the east coast for multiple family visits a year. We still buy Organic salad mix in nonrecyclable plastic containers and mix it with avocados shipped in from Mexico. ... Read Full Article
